The last full friendly before the season starts and we rightfully ended it all with a win. Two goals in the second period from Appsy finished it all on a high.
Although results haven't gone our way pre-season, the performances have not been far short. We've created bundles of chances which is always a positive and will therefore give us a chance against anyone when we kick off for real. It is going to take time what with the number of new guys we have with us but they have settled in well and have given us a better squad than the one that finished runners last season. Looks like we will have about 7 or 8 new guys in the squad for next season so it is kind of a re-build going on again for us guys, but make no mistake about it, if these guys gel like I hope they will, we will have a good season.
Can't spend to long on the report as Becks is about to drop at any point now.

Fabio Finch signing out.

Sunday 1 August 2010
Princes Park Reserves 2-2 AC Star
Pre-season friendly
Half Time 1-1

Princes Park: Hergest; Webb, Biggs, Chambers, Cobbin.
Referee: Gary Baker.

Well I know the scoreline read Princes Park Reserves 2 - AC Star 2, but really we won 3 - 2. Jay Chambers bicycle/overhead kick which clearly crossed the line was an absolute worldy and worthy of winning any game and for that I am notching this first friendly down as a 3 - 2 win.
With only 6 players involved from last seasons Runners Up Side, it was like starting all over again and to do it with a win is an added bonus. We dominated the early exchanges and were in complete control for the first half hour and were worthy of the lead from Cobbin's towering header from a Rose corner. Surprisingly we were even looking fairly solid at the back, I say surprisingly because Ben 'Treacle' Webb was one of the centre backs. Things went down hill when everyone decided that the ref was to blame for absolutely everything and we ended the half on level terms after Hergo, who was doing us a favour in the sticks, was lobbed from about 40yds.
The second half saw us come out and take a strangle hold on the game straighaway with Biggsy putting us back in the lead with a great volley. We had chances to extend the lead but none found the onion. Hergo was again lobbed for ACs second (I'll say no more than that) putting the scoreline at 2 - 2.
Preperation wasn't the greatest with people not turning up on the morning and then getting to the ground 15 minutes before kick off is never going to work wonders for you but there were bundles more positives than negatives. All the new guys produced the goods and we was even blessed with seeing Probets back in the fold having a ten minute run towards the end of the match. Roll on next Sunday, Swanscombe Tigers over at Flamingo Park for us boys.

Rumour has it that DC might be making a return this weekend. I bet he looks like Rik Waller without any pre-season in him.
